Single Garage Epoxy Flooring Melbourne
A hard-wearing flake or solid-colour floor for a standard single garage — installed in two days, sealed against oil, dust and hot tyres.
Single Garage Epoxy Flooring Melbourne done properly
A single garage is the most common epoxy job we do in Melbourne — and the one most often quoted badly. At 18–22m² the material cost is small, so almost the entire price is preparation and labour. That is exactly where cheap quotes cut corners, and exactly why those floors peel within two summers.
We diamond-grind every single garage slab back to clean, open concrete. That removes the laitance — the weak, dusty top layer left by the original concrete pour — along with any old paint, sealer or glue. Without that step a coating sits on the surface instead of keying into it, and it will lift the first time a warm tyre parks on it.
Most Melbourne single garages are then finished with a full flake broadcast: a pigmented epoxy base coat, decorative vinyl flake spread to rejection, scraped back smooth, and sealed with two coats of polyaspartic. The flake hides slab imperfections, adds grip underfoot, and makes the floor far more forgiving of the odd dropped tool than a plain gloss finish.
If your garage doubles as a workshop, gym or storage space, say so at the inspection. It changes the topcoat we specify — a workshop floor takes more solvent and impact than a car bay, and the right seal costs no more if it is chosen up front rather than repaired later.

Specified for the job, not scaled from a generic system
The detail that separates a floor built to last from one that looks fine for a season.
Diamond-ground preparation
The full slab is mechanically ground, never acid-etched or simply swept. This is the single biggest factor in how long the floor lasts.
Polyaspartic topcoat
UV-stable and resistant to hot tyre pickup — the failure mode that ruins most budget garage floors within a season or two.
Grip underfoot
Flake texture gives natural slip resistance, so a wet garage floor in winter stays safe to walk on.
Oil and chemical resistant
Engine oil, brake fluid, coolant and degreaser wipe off a sealed surface instead of staining porous concrete.
No more concrete dust
Bare slabs shed fine grey dust onto everything stored in the garage. Coating the floor stops it at the source.
Two-minute clean-up
A seamless floor with no grout lines or joints — sweep it, or hose it and squeegee it out.
How the job runs
Four stages, so you always know what is happening on your floor and when.
Free on-site inspection
We measure the garage, check the slab for moisture, cracks and old coatings, then send a fixed written quote.
Diamond grinding
The full floor is ground with vacuum-extracted machines, edges included. Cracks and pits are filled and re-ground flat.
Base coat and flake
Primer and pigmented epoxy base go down, with flake broadcast to rejection across the whole floor.
Seal and handover
Scraped back, sealed with two polyaspartic coats, inspected and handed over with aftercare instructions.

How much does a single garage epoxy floor cost in Melbourne?
A complete single garage epoxy floor starts at around $1,400 for a solid colour system and $1,600–$2,100 for flake, based on a typical 18–22m² garage. That is the full installed price including diamond grinding and a polyaspartic topcoat. Metallic finishes run $2,300–$3,100. The final figure depends on the slab condition and whether tiles or old coatings need removing first.
How long does a single garage take to complete?
Two days for most single garages. Day one is grinding, repairs and the base coat with flake broadcast; day two is scraping back and sealing. You can walk on it after about 24 hours and park on it after 5–7 days.
Can you epoxy a garage that has oil stains?
Yes. Oil that has soaked into the slab is degreased and then ground out — diamond grinding removes the contaminated top layer of concrete. Deep, long-standing stains occasionally need spot treatment before coating, which we identify at the inspection rather than discovering mid-job.
Will the floor lift when I park a hot car on it?
Not with a polyaspartic topcoat. Hot tyre pickup happens when a cheap sealer softens under a warm tyre and bonds to the rubber. Polyaspartic stays hard at tyre temperatures, which is why we use it as standard rather than as an upsell.
Do I need to empty the garage first?
Yes — the floor needs to be completely clear for grinding and coating. Shelving and cabinets can usually stay if they are wall-mounted and clear of the slab. We will confirm what needs moving at the inspection.
Is flake or solid colour better for a single garage?
Flake, for most people. It costs a little more but hides slab imperfections, grips better underfoot, disguises dust and tyre marks between cleans, and does not show every scuff the way a plain gloss floor does. Solid colour suits a clean, modern look where the slab is already in good condition.
