Why September, and not just because we say so
There is a real reason this month suits the work, and it is worth understanding whether or not you use the discount.
Cure times come back to normal
Epoxy and polyaspartic coatings cure chemically, and cold slows that chemistry down. Through the depths of a Melbourne winter the two days on site do not change, but the wait before you can park on the floor stretches — three days becomes closer to a week.
From September that gap closes. By the second half of the month you are back to the standard schedule: walk on it at 24 hours, storage back at 48, car in at 72. If you have been putting the job off because you cannot lose the garage for a week, this is the month that stops being a problem.
Christmas is closer than it looks
October through December is our busiest run of the year, every year. People want the garage sorted before visitors arrive, before the summer projects start, before the car collection comes out. Lead times stretch from one to three weeks out to four or five.
Booking in September is not a sales line, it is arithmetic. A quote accepted this month can be installed in October. A quote accepted in November may not be installed before Christmas at all.

What is actually included

Fourteen stages. A quote that is materially cheaper than ours has removed some of them, and the ones that get removed are almost always numbers 4, 5 and 6 — the invisible ones.
The two days, hour by hour
Day one — preparation
Masking first, then the grinder. This is the noisy, dusty, entirely invisible part you are actually paying for. The machine runs coupled to an industrial dust extractor, which matters more than people expect: a garage has an internal door into the house, and grinding without extraction sends fine concrete dust straight through it.
Grinding removes the builder's sealer, any paint or plaster from construction, and the weak top skin of the concrete, leaving an open profile for the primer to key into. Then the edges, which a planetary grinder cannot reach — a separate machine for the last hundred millimetres against the wall. Skipping that is a common shortcut and it shows up first, usually within a year.
Cracks are routed out into clean channels, filled with a structural repair compound and ground flush. The slab is vacuumed, tacked off, and primed late in the day so the primer cures overnight.
Day two — the finish
The coloured base coat goes down first, rolled out wet and even. Flake is broadcast into it to refusal — thrown until the surface physically will not take any more. That phrase matters, because it is where flake floors get cheapened: a light scatter costs the installer less and looks fine on the day, then goes patchy within a season where traffic wears it.
Once set, loose flake is scraped back and vacuumed, and the clear polyaspartic topcoat goes on last. The topcoat carries the abrasion resistance, the UV stability and the resistance to hot tyre pickup.
Preparation is the whole job
Epoxy does not soak into concrete the way paint soaks into timber. It grips a texture, and that texture has to be created mechanically. No texture, no bond — regardless of how expensive the resin is.
Which is why the question worth asking any contractor is simply: how will you prepare the slab? A good answer names diamond grinding and dust extraction. Answers that should slow you down include "we'll clean and etch it" — acid reacts with cement and cannot get through a builder's sealer at all — and "we'll scuff it up", which usually means a sander that does not produce a usable profile. If you are in a new build, read this bit
The window between handover and moving in is the best one you will get, and most people miss it.
- The garage is empty. Nothing to shift, nothing to store elsewhere, no working around shelving.
- There is no car to relocate for three days.
- The driveway may not be poured. That lets us reach the front slab edge from bare ground and carry the coating over it properly, instead of stopping at a raw lip. That edge is what the street sees every time the door goes up.
New slabs also need more preparation than people assume, not less — the builder's sealer has to be ground off, and young concrete needs moisture testing before anything is applied. Doing it while access is clear makes all of that straightforward.

Commercial and warehouse floors

Why is September a good month for this?
Three reasons. Spring weather brings cure times back to normal after winter. Anything you want finished before Christmas needs booking now, because October through December is our busiest run. And if you are moving into a new build, spring handovers cluster — the garage is empty and it is the easiest window you will get.
Is it too cold to install in early September?
No. The two days on site do not change. Cure times stretch slightly in cold weather, so the wait before parking on the floor may run closer to four days than three in the first week or two of the month. We tell you the actual timings at the measure.
How long does the work take?
Two days on site for a standard garage. Day one is preparation — masking, diamond grinding, repairs, primer overnight. Day two is the coloured base coat, flake broadcast, scrape-back and clear topcoat.
When can I park on it?
Walk on it after 24 hours, move storage back after 48, park a car after 72. Driving on it early is the single most common way a brand-new floor gets marked.

Is there a warranty?
Yes — a written workmanship warranty covering peeling, delamination and coating failure arising from the installation. It does not cover impact damage, chemical spills left to sit, or driving on the floor before the cure times have passed.
What happens after 30 September?
